Get to know the history of the Hawaiian Luau

Hawaii is famous for being the center of vacationers. The country represents its 750 miles of pristine coastline consisting of volcanoes and white sand beaches with the crystal-clear ocean. It also has its iconic ancient culture that several tourists love and rich cuisines. The state offers fun activities byodo-in temple tour, a stroll within the Hawaii botanical garden in Oahu, turtle snorkeling, whale watching, surfing, and many more.

However, the notable festive that countless travelers look forward to is their primitive Hawaiian Luau.

A typical Hawaiian Luau begins with pahu or native Hawaiian drums. The evening continues with the lighting of tiki torches, which are surrounded by the stunning colors of the sunset. The Hawaiian Luau is a multicultural celebration of Hawaiian culture, with bright clothing and plenty of food.

The traditional luau is a celebration of the Hawaii ancestors, and it is now one of the most popular events in the world. Its multicultural nature is reflected in its cuisine, with dishes such as Chinese noodles, Korean barbecue beef, and Portuguese doughnuts, known as malasadas, common. In addition to the main dish, Hawaiian luaus also feature various desserts, from coconut pudding to fresh fruit, including mango and pineapple.

Eating on the floor is typical in a traditional luau feast, and guests sit on mats made from ti leaves or native plants. Poi, a staple of the Hawaiian diet, was cooked in a traditional oven and served as the main course. There are platters set up on luau mats, and dry foods, such as sweet potatoes and bananas, were served directly on the floor.

The other famous dish during the festive is Poke. This food can be served as an appetizer or main dish in a luau. It is made with ahi tuna (tako) or octopus. Cooks can cut the fish or tako into small pieces and eat it with sea salt, seaweed, crushed kukui nuts, sesame oil, and kimchi to this dish.

As time passed, the Hawaiian Luau became more inclusive and gender-inclusive. That is why tourists are so fond of the festive that pushed numerous sightseers to go back.
